COURSES:
#1-IT’S ALL CONNECTED: ORAL HEALTH & WHOLE BODY WELLNESS (Friday seminar):
Oral care practice has changed significantly over the past decades, and oral professionals’ roles in patients’ overall health maintenance continue to grow in importance. Dental professionals have long been aware of some of the oral/systemic links, but with the exponential growth of interest and information in this area, it can be extremely difficult to keep up with the latest literature, let alone to separate well-supported clinical evidence from unsupported hypotheses. This course will inform the entire dental team on these advances, as well as provide practical information about how these emerging evidence-based connections may affect your practices.

Key topics covered include:
*Review the impact of bacteria and inflammation in the oral cavity and throughout the body
*Review and update information about established connections between oral health and systemic conditions
*Examine clinical support for possible emerging links between periodontitis and systemic issues
*Learn how to distinguish between different levels of evidence
*Understand the impact of the latest oral-systemic link evidence on the practice

#2-DENTAL OFFICE MEDICAL EMERGENCIES: MORE THAN CPR(Sunday seminar): Medical emergencies can and do occur, not only in your dental office but any place and at any time.Should the unthinkable happen in your dental office – a catastrophic medical emergency- would you be able to save a life?Would you be able to say you did all you could? Would you be able to prove you did all you could? The entire staff must be trained and emergency equipment and drugs must be available and current. The best way to handle an emergency is to start by being prepared.By the end of this course, participants can:

*Name 3 aspects of patient assessment, which must be completed prior to patient treatment
*Identify possible contraindications to oral health treatment
*Describe signs and symptoms of common emergency situations
*Management of overdose, allergic and psychogenic local anesthetic reactions
*Explain basic medico-legal responsibilities

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS: (Total of 6 CEU’s): These courses have been approved by the Texas Dental Hygienists’ Association a State Board of Dental Examiners approved provider of continuing education for DENTISTS, DENTAL HYGIENISTS, AND DENTAL ASSISTANTS.
